MindStudio becomes multimodal & cheaper for individuals + WWDC 2024 is around the corner...

In the last 2 weeks, we've been working hard at bringing multimodal AIs to MindStudio. Soon, you'll be able to generate images, audio, and video in the platform.

In the last two weeks, our team has prepared to launch one of our biggest updates to the model selection. For the first time ever, we’re introducing image and audio models, with video models coming shortly after. This update also includes a pricing adjustment, making MindStudio more affordable for individuals looking to take advantage of multimodal AIs and a fully-featured no-code builder.

The industry is moving at a breakneck pace as well: Groq has started offering Llama 3 8b at over 1200 tokens per second, Mistral AI released Codestral, Gemini 1.5 Pro outranked all models except GPT-4o in the arena, Perplexity introduced “pages,” and Suno is giving out $1 million to AI song-makers. It's time for the US to have its own Eurovision, but with AI.

Apple’s WWDC 2024 is around the corner, and I personally cannot wait to see what Apple and the supposed partnership with OpenAI has in store for everyone. Apple shortly lost its place as the #2 most valuable company in the World to NVIDIA this week, with NVIDIA reaching the $3t market cap (for context, that’s the GDP of the UK). It recouped its position today, but it’s clear the market is rewarding Jensen for the new releases such as the NVIDIA Blackwell and NIMs at Computex 2024.

🗞️ Industry news

  1. Apple’s WWDC 2024 starts next Monday, 10th of June. Is Apple ready to announce its AI plans?

    On Monday, Apple is set to unveil its long-awaited AI strategy, marking its first significant move in this space after a two-year lull. Despite having stayed on the sidelines since the launch of ChatGPT, Apple is now poised to make its entrance into the AI arena.

    While Apple's tendency to arrive late to emerging trends is nothing new, its entry typically sends ripples through the industry, capturing the attention of both the market and consumers.

    Here’s what to expect according to The Verge and other news outlets:

    • A Siri revamp and other internal apps with AI.

    • A ChatGPT-like chatbot through a partnership with OpenAI.

    • iMessage could adopt Rich Communication Services (RCS) in iOS 18, improving text and photo messaging between iPhone and Android users.

    • Users may be able to arrange apps freely and apply themes.

    Maybe a calculator app for the iPad? 🤯

    No major Mac updates are expected at this event.

  2. Perplexity AI launches “Pages”, AI-generated Wikipedia-like pages on any topic you can think of

    Perplexity may be losing some ground to Google in the AI search arena with Google's recent rollout of AI Overviews to all U.S. consumers. However, Perplexity maintains its edge with rapid deployment thanks to its smaller size and has just launched Perplexity Pages.

    Perplexity Pages generate live, citation-first results on any topic, mimicking Wikipedia’s style with a fresh UI. Searchers can also continue chatting with the AI to edit sections, generate new ones, or enrich the page with images.

    MindStudio already integrates all of the newest Perplexity APIs, including Sonar Small Online and Sonar Large Online, that can search the web for you and provide factual results. We also applied for preview access to their citation API.

  3. Suno AI to pay $1m to content creators

    Suno AI’s trending page

    Suno AI is one of the best models to generate audio, specifically AI songs. Faced with increasing competition from Udio, Suno raised $125M and decided to start rewarding community members.

    Starting in June (yes, it’s live right now!) the contest will pay out $100,000 to the top songs:

    $100k payout in June 2024!

    Songs must be created between 12:00 AM ET on June 1, 2024 and 11:59 PM ET on June 30, 2024. Songs must be public to be considered, and eligibility is limited to one song per creator for VOL-1 of the Suno Creator Program.

    This had a fantastic effect on the Trending page. Previously, it was a mix of poor-quality songs with strange lyrics, such as repeating the word "dog" 50 times. Now, users are actually trying and generating great songs you'd want to replay.

    Visit the Trending page from your account and let me know if you think it could replace your Spotify playlist this month. It might be the US Eurovision... AI-first 😉

In other news, NVIDIA shortly overtook Apple in market cap, reaching $3t.

NVIDIA shortly reached a market cap of $3.011t

For context:

  • $3t is the entire GDP of the United Kingdom, and higher than the GDP of France, one of the economic powerhouses in the EU;

  • The first company to reach $1t in market cap was Apple in 2018. In January 2024, Microsoft overtook Apple as the world’s most valuable company, mostly due to its investment in AI;

  • Apple is still in a way better position when it comes to actual earnings, with $120b. That’s higher than Microsoft at $105.26b, and much higher than NVIDIA, currently sitting at only $34.07b;

🔥 Product Updates

The time has come: MindStudio is turning multimodal next week.

Starting next week, you will have access to:

  • Generate image: Use DALL-E 2 or DALL-E 3 to generate images that stun your audience, without needing your own API key.

  • Display text: Use this block to display values stored in variables. This block will replace the current send message block when the sender is set to “system.”

  • Generate text: Replaces the current “Send Message” block.

  • Text to speech: Use audio models to generate AI outputs that speak to you.

  • Analyze image: Tap into the power of vision models like GPT-4 Vision to read images and add the result to your context.

And yes, this also means new output components, including audio and video playback components.

Coming soon, you will also get access to text-to-video models from Stable Diffusion and more editing capabilities for multimodal outputs.

This update comes with a pricing change. Starting next week, MindStudio will offer three pricing packages:

  1. Starter: $0/month + usage costs. Includes 3 app max, access to select LLM models, limited RAG functionality, and private apps only.

  2. Individual: $20/month + usage costs. Includes unlimited apps, access to all models, full RAG functionality, and public AI access.

  3. Team: $49/user/month + usage costs. Includes everything in Individual, multiple users in workspace, app embedding, API access, global logging, and deficit billing.

All prices will be reflected in a Usage/Billing dashboard and will break down the costs associated with your AI apps.

If you’re currently on the free plan, this will impact your existing app, so please make sure to review the changes. We will offer 30 days free trials on all pro plans. Only one trial per user.

We’re hosting a webinar to showcase the new features on Thursday next week. Join here.

💡 Tip of The Week

How you structure your prompt in the send message block makes a massive difference in the output you can expect from the model.

I suggest structuring your prompt like this:

Act as … → this is usually your Main prompt (for the flow, not the send message block). Here, you can specify what the AI should act as, e.g. an accountant, a teacher, a marketer;

Scope → the first line in the send message prompt should outline the scope. What do you want the AI, acting as the persona in the main prompt, to do? Should it summarize a doc, simulate a sales call?

Formatting → how should the AI format the response? Add markdown details, what titles and talking points should be considered, and general guidelines after the scope;

Example → provide a demo output, or multiple if your model accepts a larger context window.

Following these steps, you might find that a lower-intelligence model like Claude 3 Haiku is all you need. While more intelligent models like Sonnet outperform Haiku easily in multi-shot prompting or in understanding, this kind of prompt engineering limits the amount of understanding the base model needs to do, and focuses on the output.

Remember, the clearer you are in the prompt, the better your response will be.
