Should Rabbit R1 Just Be an App & Are Wearables a Fad?
Rabbit R1 is technically a wrapper for an Android-based OS. Humane Pin failed to capture positive reviews. Are wearables a fad?

Starting today, all new MindStudio users will experience a brand new onboarding flow designed to help them ease into the platform and receive personalized recommendations. Time to share with your friends and colleagues!
In parallel, the AI industry didn’t move as fast as usual, with Rabbit R1’s pickup event being the main driver. Reviewers like MKBHD called it “barely reviewable”. Apple is hinting at some sort of surprise at their May 7th iPad event, Anthropic finally released their mobile app (available in EU), and OpenAI redesigned their website.

Anthropic releases Team Plan and iOS app
Copyright @ Anthropic
Anthropic has introduced a new Team plan and an iOS app for its core AI solution, Claude.
The Team plan, priced at $30 per user per month, is designed for increased collaboration, offering expanded usage, administrative tools for managing users and billing, and access to Opus.Simultaneously, the Claude iOS app has been launched, enabling users to access AI capabilities on-the-go. The app maintains continuity with the web version, supporting chat syncs and the ability to upload and analyze photos. It is available for free across all user plans, including Pro and Team.
Is Rabbit R1 just an app?
Since its launch, the Rabbit R1 has stirred debates, notably regarding its necessity beyond being an app.
Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority experimented by installing Rabbit's launcher APK on a Pixel 6A, adapting it to mimic the R1's functionality using the phone's volume key as a substitute for the R1's hardware button.
Despite some operational limitations, the experiment suggests the R1's capabilities could essentially be delivered through a standard Android app.
Rabbit's CEO Jesse Lyu insists on the uniqueness of Rabbit OS and LAM, arguing they require specific firmware and cloud support not replicable via third-party platforms.
The real reason Rabbit isn’t an app is probably somewhat in the middle: Apple can crush any third-party AI solution by releasing their own AI models on-device. Having a separate device can help Rabbit stand out.The new homepage
OpenAI released a new version of their website, and it feels very… Apple-like.
Curiously enough, their hero slider (the first element on the page) features ChatGPT prominently, then promotes Research, Business, and Sora in this order.
This might suggest what OpenAI is currently focusing on, which is quite different from their initial AGI focus. The homepage feels more like a product landing than a research lab website.
However, Sam Altman spoke to young entrepreneurs at Stanford University this week, and he keeps claiming GPT-5 will definitely be smarter than GPT-4. No real timeline, though.
🔥 Product Updates
This week, MindStudio released a few improvements to our UI, with the biggest one being draggable tabs:
You can now drag-and-drop tabs to reorder them in the top menu;
We added a few animations to make the process smoother;
MindStudio has a new onboarding process for new users: time to invite your colleagues to join the no-code AI revolution!
We’re also pleased to confirm our first Live Build workshop was a success, and that we’ll focus on delivering more in the future.
This month, the team is working on:
Adding Image Generation Capabilities: you can already use DALL-E 3 in MindStudio with your own API key, but we want to make the process easier. Soon, you’ll be able to generate images from the editor just like you “send a message” block;
New models: there are a plethora of new, advanced models that were released in the past weeks. MindStudio will include the most relevant ones like Gemini 1.5 Pro, GPT-4 Turbo (new), and Llama 3;
Certifications: our product team is working to get SOC2 compliance in the coming weeks. After that, we’ll look into HIPAA and GDPR to build up our Enterprise offering. We know that certifications are crucial for enterprise team looking to handle PII or sensitive data, and we want to offer the best platform for your needs.
New learn page: we want our education centre to be easy to understand, comprehensive, and… good looking! We’re working on a redesign of the learn page and all the content within it.
💡 Tip of The Week
You don’t always need RAG.
RAG was frequently used to overcome models’ short context windows back in 2022 and 2023. GPT-3.5 had a 16k context window, and Claude was stuck at 9k. It was nearly impossible to feed a reasonable amount of data into the models without using RAG.
Nowadays, we have models like GPT-4 Turbo at 128k, Claude 3 at 200k, and Gemini 1.5 Pro (coming soon to MindStudio) at a million. Not only did the size increase, but price went down with it.
You can now send a MILLION tokens to Claude 3 Haiku for $0.33. This means that, as long as Haiku is intelligent enough for your workflow, you might not need RAG at all.
Especially when your documents or training data are rather small (sub 5k words), using RAG can add a layer of unpredictability that you can easily avoid by spending a cent or a fraction of a cent more per interaction.
RAG is a great fit when you’re searching for something in a large corpus of data. It will retrieve semantically related snippets based on the vectors. However, it’s not as great at “training” the model with custom data, given it will only ever return a subset of the original data source.
